Can someone explain to me how trading between your cities work and internationally?

I'm just not understanding this whole concept with trade caravans, their cargo space, and how they benefit or hinder trade.


I've spent a few days trying to read other people's post and trying to understand what its saying, but for some reason its not making any sense to me.

Think of MSP for international trade purposes as cargo points being able to carry a given amount of gold (the weight of gold is in the builds table of the rules). Think of MSP for internal trade as providing a small income in gold directly but much more income potential as it adds to your international trade value.
